The West African Women in America is a non-profit organization sponsored by 501(c)(3) Kenyan Women Association organization based in Seattle. The organization aims to help young West African women get support by working together in their community to bring about equity, ensure the safety of young women, and to provide opportunities and empowerment for basic human rights so that the women are able to pursue their dreams without hindrance or fear of man-made obstacles.
We will help women who have struggled as a result of undergoing FGM or are in fear of their personal safety due to religious oppression. We will also help those who have fled these influences and now suffer because their basic needs for food, housing, medical care, transportation, and child care are not being met. We will go beyond meeting just the basic needs of these women; we must nurture them so that our future generations will rise above this blight on our history.
